Student Council

Student Council is the school’s student leadership and engagement organization. The organization is charged with developing student leadership skills and knowledge; building a climate of caring and tolerance through volunteerism and service to others; providing a voice for the student body and giving every student on opportunity to be heard; and encouraging students to become involved in their school and community.

As a member of the National Association of Student Councils (NASC), the student council will be guided by the following principles:

  • Empowered students are vehicles for positive change in their school and community.
  • Student leaders have the responsibility to be positive role models.
  • Student councils play a vital role in preserving knowledge of and practice in the democratic process.
  • Leadership training is essential to allow developing leaders to achieve their full potential.
  • Student council programs are stronger when all students are encouraged to participate.

In support of these principles, the NASC provides student councils with school-level leadership training, access to leadership resources, and conferences to network and share experiences with other student leaders.

Student council membership is determined through class elections, school-wide elections, and at-large appointments by a faculty council. Student council representatives are required to attend student council meetings to maintain their membership.
